Terry Hunter was born in Donaldsonville, Georgia. He grew up on a farm in Jakin, Georgia. A graduated from Tuskegee Institute (University) in May 1984, with a B.S. in Accounting. He received his commissioned into the air force through AFROTC on this same date, and later completed Flight Screening at Hondo, Texas in Sep1984. He earned a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University in 1994. He is a graduated of Squadron Officers School (Resident) and Air Command and Staff College (Seminar).

Terry attended pilot training (class #86-01) at Vance AFB, Oklahoma and received his wings on 10 October 1985. Following C-141 initial training at Altus AFB Oklahoma, he was assigned to the 76th Military Airlift Squadron, Charleston AFB, South Carolina, from March 1986 until August 1989. During his tour Major Hunter upgraded to C-141B Aircraft Commander, worked as pilot scheduler and was squadron Company Grade Officer of the Quarter in the 3rd quarter of 1988. That same year, (Major)Terry Hunter was the aircraft commander of a 12 hour air-refueling mission that flew burned victims of an airshow crash, at Ramstein AB, Germany, to Kelly AFB Texas for time critical medical attention.

From August 1989 until January 1993, Major Hunter was assigned to the 1402nd Airlift Squadron, later to become the 457th Airlift Squadron, where he flew the C-21A with the 89th Airlift Wing and the 375th Airlift Wing. He quickly upgraded to instructor and then evaluator pilot. He served as Chief of Scheduling and Chief of Training and was in charge of upgrading all air force general officers flying the C-21A. Among his distinctive mission accomplishments were flying home freed American POWs from the Persian Gulf, and flying members of the Congressional Base Closure Committee.

From January 1993 until March 1995, Major Hunter was assigned to the 310th Airlift Squadron, Howard AB, Panama. He became the C-21A evaluator pilot, special airlift section chief and Chief of Quality Assurance. He replaced a departing Lt Col as the A Flight Commander for a 4 month period. In June 1994, (Major)Terry Hunter was selected as the Deputy Chief of Operations Group Standardization/ Evaluation. During his time at Howard AB, he was selected as squadron Company Grade Officer of the Quarter twice in 1994 and ultimately won Operations Group Company Grade Officer of the Year in 1994.

From March 1995 until March 1998, (Major) Terry Hunter was assigned to the Tanker Airlift Control Center (TACC) and Headquarters Air Mobility Command (AMC) at Scott

AFB Illinois. While serving as MAJCOM Regional Operations Director in TACC, he was active in numerous missions to include DEA support, Presidential movement and Operation VIGILANT SENTINEL, PROVIDE PROMISE, AND JOINT ENDEAVOR all supporting US military operations in SW Asia. As the Operational Support Airlift (OSA) Modernization Plans Officer in AMC, he authored AMC Master Plan “Commander’s Intent”- unique high-visibility platform that spells out AMC/CC’s hottest modernization issues through 2022 and led $100M MAJCOM team in prioritizing and advocating C-21 upgrades to extend it’s service life well into the 21st Century.

In March 1998, he was assigned to the 17th Airlift Squadron, Charleston AFB South Carolina. He served as the Assistant Operations Officer (ADO), Deputy Flight Commander, Wing Current Operations and C-17A Instructor Aircraft Commander. During his tour at Charleston, he had a very active role in numerous missions to include HUREVAC Support, Embassy Support, MEDEVAC Support, Presidential Support, and Contingency Operations in SW Asia and Serbia. His superb team leadership, led to winning 437 Operations Group Team of the Month in August 1999 and again in March 2000. His efforts and unselfish attitude contributed greatly to his unit and wing winning 21st AF OSS of the Year for 1999 and best wing in 21st AF in 1999.

In August 2001 until August 2004, (Major) Terry Hunter was assigned to the 48th Flying Training Squadron as a T-1A Instructor Pilot. His many duties include ADO, Wing Supervisor of Flying, Squadron Supervisor of Flying, Squadron Top Three, Check Pilot, Progress Pilot, Elimination Pilot, and Chief Squadron Training. His role in these jobs included conducting training for over 220 student pilot annually, in Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training (SUPT). As the Wing Minority Recruiting Program POC, AETC 19th AF directed, he was responsible for establishing ties with historically black colleges and universities to ignite interest in the air force with focus on aviation careers. In March 2003, the 14th Flying Training Wing was recognized by 19th AF/CC as “Outstanding….best program in AETC”, with record breaking numbers—over 70 recruiting visits reaching over 5100 students/cadets of which 2200 were minorities.

(Major) Terry Hunter is a Command Pilot with over 5500 flying hours in the T-41, T-37, T-38, C141B, C-21A, C17A, and T-1A. His military decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with 1 oak leaf cluster, Air Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal with 1 oak leaf cluster, Air Force Achievement Medal, AF Outstanding Unit Award with 4 oak

leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal with 1 service star, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and NATO Medal (Wear first NATO medal awarded).

After 20 amazing years (Major)Terry Hunter retired from the air force on 31 Jul 04 and started training with JetBlue Airways on 04 Aug 04 on the airbus A-320 aircrafts he has also qualified and flown on the E-190 Thus transitioning back to the AirBus A320/A321 where he enjoys.

Terry currently is based at JFK Int’l Airport as a Captain on the A-320/321 aircrafts and has amassed of over 40,000+ flying hours. When Terry is not flying, he enjoys family time, golfing, mentoring and giving back to Prince George County communities.

Terry and his wife Danielle Inez currently reside in Upper Marlboro Md with their children Olivia Yasmine (23), and Terrence Saffold -Hayes (14) are now owners of Take Flight Consulting LLC.
